Among the tall mighty trees
Sprout the dainty little Daffodils
Marking a new beginning
To yet another end
Again a bright lively spring
To a prior winter's descend
But just as they had begun to glow
In all their gay and vibrant yellow
Scoffed aloud, the newly sprung
Cherry blossom's Magenta buds that hung
To what great virtue it is
But, to be known, just for a spring's bloom
An arduous voyage in life, after all, only is
The coveted title, that holds till doom
As an endorsement, if at all, to a being's pride
Thus, the fine little daffodils
Embarked on an ardent stride
Of making their sojourn a laudable Odyssey
Scorched they thereafter, in the fiery summer Sun
And washed away, the delicate petals, like in a spree
As the relentless rains happened to take their turn
Even if it all, were to lead to their perish
To be heralded one fine day for their mettle
Was their only muse that they all cherished
Eventually, one day, came down the snow on the petals
Sliding through the wooden barks of the barren trees around
And gradually, in a shroud of white
The snow uniformly blanketed the ground
Finally, just as the last Daffodil's petal succumbed
To the nature's might
One last time, it glanced up before it numbed
For that one solemn title's pronouncement
But alas, for the daffodils fancy in vain
As nature knows not, the honor of, any such endorsement
Or pays any heed to a mortal's disdain

wow these are very pretty lines.
ReplyDeleteLoved the end.. "As nature knows not, the honor of, any such endorsement
ReplyDeleteOr pays any heed to a mortal's disdain".. This poem shows the daffodils' journey in a different light than Wordsworth
Loved this poem Ellora.
ReplyDelete/One last time it glanced up before it numbed/ this one line gave me the goosebumps. Such a reflection of human mortality.
Even though the poem is about mortality and the word that rings in my ears is 'disdain' BUT. But. But.
ReplyDeleteI'm left with this image of a daffodil living its journey despite the end. Hurrah! I say to the glow of yellow.
loving your poems Ira.
Love the poem, Ira. The last five lines are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIra, love the feelings and image it evokes. Love the journey of life and the minute nuggets we gather as we pace through. As Sonia said that line did stir me up.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lines. Nature is always neutral. It is upto us to form our impressions.
ReplyDelete"One last time, it glanced up before it numbed " This was the line that made the entire poetry come close to my heart. loved the lines .
